Do I need a 4x4 to get to Cathedrals on Fraser?
Yes, you’ll need a 4WD to get to Cathedrals on Fraser, as the island is all sand driving.

Do I need a permit for my 4WD?
Yes, a current vehicle access permit (VAP) is required for all vehicles. 24hr number plate surveillance cameras are in use. Please ensure vehicle number plate details are correct on your permit to avoid penalties.
When is it best to travel on the beach?
As a general rule of thumb, it is best to travel at low tide, or within 2 hours either side of low tide.
Is there anywhere I can’t travel?
It is an offence to drive on sand dunes. Keep to the formed tracks when entering beach camping areas.

How do I give way to a plane?
Authorised small, single engine planes land on the eastern beach.
Are you allowed fires?
Yes, Cathedrals on Fraser is one of the few places on the island where you are allowed to have camp fires. Collection of firewood or kindling is an offence on the island, so you can either bring your own milled timber, or purchase it at our shop.
Can I bring my own fire pit?
You can bring your own fire pit providing it has an enclosed bottom and releases no residue into the ground. Something like a brazier or an Ozpig is fine. All coals and ashes must be placed into one of our fire rings and not dumped into the bush.
Are you dingo fenced?
Yes, we are fully dingo-fenced.
Can I stay with you if I have a Caravan?
All our sites are roughly 10x12m, if your caravan is off-road and can fit within a site this size then we are happy to have you stay with us.
However, only high clearance 4WD vehicles are suitable for the island’s sandy forest tracks and beaches. Drivers of all-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive vehicles with low ground clearance may find beach access points and inland tracks impassable. Drivers should ensure their vehicle is capable of towing trailers in deep soft sand.
Can I bring 2 cars and a tent on to one site?
All our sites are roughly 10x12m. You can have 2 cars and 2 tents or 1 car with a camper trailer per campsite.
How many people on each site?
A maximum of 6 people per campsite (with the exception of the premium powered sites which allow a maximum of 10 people).
What is the minimum stay?
There is no minimum stay.
Do you have to pay for Laundry and shower facilities?
We have free hot showers for our guests. Laundry facilities are available at the amenities blocks ($8.00 per wash, $8.00 per dry).
Can I bring a generator?
Generators up to 2.0kVA and 65 decibels may be used from 9am-8pm.
Do you have fish cleaning stations?
No, all fish cleaning needs to be completed down at the beach in line with Queensland National Park standards.
Nearest waste points for caravan toilets?
The nearest points to us are Dundubara, 10 mins north, and Cornwells Break Road, 40 mins south. Emptying of portable toilets is strictly prohibited on site.
Do you have Wi-Fi and phone reception there?
Our campground has no phone reception, however we do sell Wi-Fi at the shop. $5.00 per day, per device and it only works on the shop verandah.
Do I need a permit to camp on your site?
You do not need a National Park camping permit to stay in our private campground. You will need a vehicle access permit to drive on the island.
Are we a pet friendly campsite?
No, pets are not permitted on the island.
Is there drinking water at the campground?
Yes, the water from the taps in our campground is safe to drink.
What facilities are available in the camp kitchens?
The camp kitchens have microwaves, kettles, toasters, gas stovetop (no oven), fridges, freezers, hot water sink, and tables and chairs. BYO cutlery and crockery.
What is the power outlet on the powered campsites?
The powerheads are all 15A.
Is there power in the permanent tents?
Yes. The external power point is limited to 4A (this is sufficient to operate your own fridge/freezer – it is not capable of operating air conditioners, heaters, etc). Please bring an extension lead if you wish to run a fan, phone charger, etc inside the tent.

Do you sell fuel?
Yes, we sell Diesel & 95 Unleaded.
Do you do gas refills?
Yes, gas bottles must be in date to be refilled.
Do you sell ice?
Yes, we sell party and block ice.
Do you sell bait?
Yes, we sell a variety of baits including beach worms, pilchards, prawns etc. We also stock a large variety of fishing gear including Alvey rods, reels and accessories.
Do you sell alcohol?
Yes, our bottle-shop is open from 9:00am to 5:00pm (6:00pm in high season). Take-away or enjoy on our verandah.
Do you sell groceries?
Yes, we have a well stocked general store. Our range includes bread, milk, fruit & veg, frozen meat, confectionary, ice-creams, and toiletries.
Do you sell pharmaceuticals?
Yes, we stock a range of pharmacy medicines (ibuprofen, paracetamol, antihistamines, first-aid, etc).
Do you sell coffee?
Yes, we make great coffee!
Do you sell take-away food?
Yes, we make great burgers, wraps, fish & chips etc. Take-away or eat on our verandah.
What time is check-in / check-out?
Check-in for campsites is from 11:00am, accommodation is from 2:00pm.
Check-out is 10:00am.
Can we arrive after hours?
Yes! If you arrive after our reception is closed, there will be an envelope left in the late check-in box (which is next to the reception window on the shop deck). Inside will be your park map and any relevant codes/keys.
What deposit is needed to secure a booking?
When creating a booking, 50% of the total is required. Final balance is due 14 days’ prior to arrival (60 days’ for bookings in high season, or group bookings).
What is the cancellation policy?
You may cancel your booking by contacting Cathedral Beach at least 14 days’ notice in low season, and 60 days’ notice for group bookings and in high season, or a minimum of 24 hours before your arrival if booked within 14 days of your stay. You will be offered an accommodation-only credit for use within 12 months from the first day of your booking (minus a $20 administration fee) or a refund (minus a $50 cancellation fee). Should you not use your credit by the end of the 12-month period, it will be forfeited to Cathedral Beach.
If you do not give 14 days’ notice in low season, and 60 days’ notice for group bookings and in high season, or a minimum of 24 hours if booked within 14 days of your stay, we will not be able to offer a refund or credit.

Yes, on the check-out page there is a ‘Comments’ section where you can type in your request and we’ll accommodate where we can.
